Stairlift Buying Guide

We’ve put together this handy stairlifts buying guide to help you decide what you need.

If you’ve decided that your stairs are becoming too much of an everyday struggle, a stairlift from Southern Stairlifts could mark the end of your stairlift struggles for good. Imagine: your whole home – given back again.  Free, at-home surveys, hassle-free installation from our own team, and outstanding in-house aftercare will, we hope, make us your clear choice.

But, even with Southern Stairlift’s reassuring expertise, it IS still a considered option, and you want to get it right first time. Of course, it’s likely that you’re thinking about a stairlift for the first time, so let our experience help your journey towards better wellbeing and autonomy at home.

Is It Time for a Stairlift?

An obvious question, perhaps, but still worth considering.

If you have a progressive condition that affects your mobility, the time is NOW. Do NOT wait until you have tripped over on the stairs, or taken a tumble.  Equally, stiff joints, issues with your balance, and generally being a little unsteady on your feet could be good indicators towards a stairlift, not least because things may get trickier as the months go on.

Or, are you considering moving to a bungalow, or a ground floor flat? Why move, when you can simply improve?

On a more serious point, though – a stairlift could be your best alternative to a care home. With the staircase situation sorted out, you could have many more years in the privacy of your own home, and avoid eye-wateringly expensive care home fees. Wouldn’t that be a better solution?

Before You Buy a Stairlift

Do you know someone with a stairlift? Why not ask their opinion on the benefits of having a stairlift installed, and pick up some tips about the questions to ask? We know that we’re the best stairlifts business in the whole of the South East, so we’re confident that you’ll come to us to help you.

Consider aftercare. So many companies outsource this. We don’t. The stairlift business you buy from needs to offer reliable, continuous care. Also, think about warranties and guarantees – with unbeatable service terms, we provide the BEST in the business; no hidden, nasty expensive surprises from the Southern Stairlifts team.

Likewise, do your research on call-outs and maintenance. Refer to our Service Support page for all the information you need.

What Types of Stairlift Are Available?

Straight Stairlifts.

Perfect for straight up-and-down sets of stairs – without curves, bends or landings. They bolt securely to the stair treads, they’re generally easy to install (and quick), and they’re the most affordable option we offer.

Curved Stairlifts.

Designed for stairways that bend around corners, they can be installed on almost any shape of staircase. They can even span more than level in your house.

Bespoke Stairlifts.

The be-all and end-all of stairlifts. The absolute epitome of function and style, these are highly tailored designs, with superb quality stairlifts for you to glide effortlessly to the next level. They can even be fitted to staircases as narrow as 62.5 cm in width (24”).

Outdoors Stairlifts.

In the UK? Yes, indeed. Fully weather proofed versions of our straight and curved lifts are ideal when it comes to getting into your garden, or down your rear or front steps. They even have robust covers to keep out the rain, sleet or snow!
